MULAT: The 6th Sining del Pilar | 15-18 March 2016, 8:00am-4:00pm, UP CMC Media Center TV Studio

Sining del Pilar (SdP) is an annual student academic conference organized by the Department of Broadcast Communication of the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines-Diliman.  The event is named after Filipino propagandist Marcelo H. del Pilar.  The main building of the U.P. College of Mass Communication is identified with his nom de plume – Plaridel.

SdP has two sections.  The criticism festival, “The Cecilia Lazaro Kritika Series,” highlights research and criticism papers by students of the Department that examine various broadcast and related media texts and the social contexts in which these are produced, circulated, consumed and re-mediated.  The Kritika Series honors the contributions of Cecilia ‘Cheche’ Lazaro, one of the Department’s former faculty members, founding president of Probe Productions, and currently one of the country’s acclaimed broadcast journalists.

The audio-video exhibit, “Sineng Lito Tiongson: Broadcast and Emerging Media Productions,” features audio and video documentaries, sound design experiments, music videos, video poetry, online talk programs, reality TV productions, broadcast journalism productions, short narratives, animation, experimental videos, ethnographic videos, and similar explorations of audio and video concepts produced by students of the Department.  The exhibit is named after Lito Tiongson, a graduate and former member of the faculty of the Department.  Lito was a committed activist, filmmaker and video documentarian.

Started in 2010, SdP’s main objective is to serve as an intersection of production and criticism outputs by broadcast communication students.  It specifically aims to gather broadcast media scholars, students from the U.P. community and other academic local and international institutions, and practitioners from the broadcast industry in a university-based festival to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas on issues faced by the country’s broadcast arts and industry.

The Department is the CHED Center of Excellence in Broadcasting.
