Residency Requirements for the MA Comm and MA Media Studies Program

Once admitted, students in the MA MS degree will be required to complete 39 units of coursework, including a successfully defended Master's thesis. Admitted students in the MA Comm degree will be required to complete 36 units of coursework, including a successfully defended Master's Thesis.

The requirements needed to graduate with an MA MS or MA Comm degree are broken down as follows:

1. Completion of a Program of Study consisting of a minimum of thirty (30) unit of formal graduate courses, which include required courses in the college as well as cognates that may be obtained in other colleges in the University;
2. Maintenance of a cumulative weighted average (CWAG) of 2.0 or better at the end of each academic year until completion of the Program of Study;
3. Passing the candidacy examination (Compre) after completion of the course work in the student's Program of Study;
4. Passing the oral defense of the Thesis proposal;
5. Passing the oral defense of the Thesis;
6. Submission of five (5) certified bound copies of the thesis and one (1) digital copy of the approved MA Thesis;
7. Submission of a pre-print or pre-publication manuscript of the thesis, where applicable.

The student must be in residency in all these steps in the program, and must have no grade of incomplete or INC in any of his/her subjects.
