Citizen Journalism in the Era of New Media Forum
The Comm 201–WZZ Class of the Department of Communication Research of the College of Mass Communication (CMC) will hold a forum entitled "#New Watchdogs, New Tricks: Citizen Journalism in the Era of New Media" on 26 September 2012, 1:00-4:30pm at the CMC Auditorium.
The forum explores how new media platforms such as Facebook and blogs enable everyone to tell stories, share information,
and report critical incidents.
A roster of prestigious speakers will tackle topics on citizen journalism trends via online institutions. Maria Ressa, Rappler CEO & Executive Director will discuss "New Ripples by Juan: Rappler and the Citizen Journalists." Vangge Giorgetti of TaoPo.org's will talk about "TaoPo! Changeneers: Putting Efficient Public Service First." Finally, Luis Teodoro, former CMC Dean and Deputy Executive Director of Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) will tackle "Nose for News: A Look at Ethics in Citizen Journalism."
