UP Department of Communication Research wins the Philippine Quill Awards 2014!

The Department of Communication Research wins the PHILIPPINE QUILL AWARDS 2014 in time for CMC@50!

The Department of Communication Research of the University of the Philippine College of Mass Communication (UP-CMC) has been named Philippine Quill Awardee for 2014 in the category Communication Training and Education. The Quill award, accorded to the Department by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), is in recognition of the global standard exemplified by its Third National Communication Research Conference (NCRC) on Communicating Risk on February 6 and 7, 2014.

Titled “BEWARE: You are at risk (Be aware: You are at a risk communication conference),” the Department’s winning entry detailed how the 2014 Conference was a venue for students, faculty, and media professionals to share and disseminate their research findings on studies relating to risk and disaster communication. In particular, research papers were about the risks that people face, the means to mitigate disasters, and how media can be used to communicate these risks.

The 2014 NCRC was the third annual conference organized by the Department of Communication Research, with the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) and the Philippines Communications Society (PCS) as co-convenors. The conference was a three-part program consisting of plenary sessions, paper presentations, and paper competition. Over 400 communication and media students, teachers, media practitioners and executives, and other experts in communication and media from all over the country participated in the 2014 NCRC.

The Philippine Quill recognition comes at an opportune time as the Department of Communication Research is celebrating its 40th year and the UP College of Mass Communication is celebrating its 50th year. The awarding ceremonies will be held on 9 March 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila.
