UPFI Film Center this February 2015

The UP Film Institute joins the rest of the units of the premier state university in observance of February as UP Diliman Month and National Arts Month with screening specials at the UPFI Film Center in UP Diliman.

Selections from QCinema International Film Festival 2014 banner festival winners of topmost honors. Among the featured filmmakers with works in exhibition are Arnel Mardoquio, Carl Joseph E. Papa, Rob Jara, Victor Villanueva, Miko Livelo, Jed Medrano, Grace Simbulan, Cha Escala and Wena Sanchez.

ABS-CBN Film Restoration salutes celebrated actress and movie queen Vilma Santos with now-classic films digitally restored and re-mastered to best commemorate her art and career as the first UP Gawad Plaridel Awardee for Film in 2005 and a recipient of UP Film Institute’s own Diwata Award for Distinguished Achievement in Women’s Cinema in 2006.

A Valentine’s presentation consists of main features from Sineng Pambansa Horror Plus Film Festival 2014 complemented by more current titles released under the auspices of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

Lav Diaz’s Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan hailed as “the most internationally acclaimed Filipino film” with a master class no less by producer Moira Lee finally screens for premier state university audiences almost two years after its world premiere in Cannes.

A crowd favorite at last year’s Cinemalaya, 1st Ko si 3rd, is set for a return engagement that befits February also as the Love Month.

Climactic offering for UPFI’s screenings for the month is the premiere of one more significant restored classic, namely, Danny Zialcita’s T-Bird at Ako, still in pursuit of ABS-CBN Film Restoration’s mission to champion the cause of preserving the country’s audiovisual heritage.

Admission is at popular price. Call 9262722; 9263640
