Cross Currents: Journey to Asian Cinema

A product of three years of research and production, this digital documentary transports its viewers to five ecological stes in Asia, namely, Batanes (Philippines, Biwako (Japan), Kali Code (Indonesia), Khiriwong (Thailand) and Tasik Chini (Malaysia). Central to the study of the region's environments is the discovery of how local communities develop indigenous practices to respond to environmental challenges. Two stand out among the region's most notable responses: spirituality and community action. Drawing on the communal actions made by five characters facing the brunt of nature's calamities, lessons can lerned from the local wisdom, initiatives and experiences which can be shared with the wider public towards developing better ecological responses.

Directed by Nick Deocampo and produced with the help of the Nippon Foundation and the Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowships, Cross Currents will be screened at the Cinemalaya 2012 on 24 July 2012 at 3.30 pm at the Dream Theater of the Cutural Center of the Phiippines.
